Welcome to our Major League Soccer Vancouver Whitecaps v Colorado Rapids Minute by Minute report. The Vancouver Whitecaps are currently first in the standings and with just six games left in the season want to make a major push towards reaching the playoffs. Today they host the Colorado Rapids, who are very much out of the playoff picture.

Vancouver win again and remain best in the west. The Whitecaps are now four points clear of second place Portland Timbers. A nice little cushion ahead of a tough road trip that will see the Whitecaps go to Seattle and then Kansas City.

Colorado with two last chances before the end of the match. But Vancouver hang on for another three points here at BC Place.

Ibini-Isei tanks his way through Colorado’s defence and can only be stopped by a foul by Mekeil Williams, who should have been sent off for this altercation.

Great move by Vancouver’s Yordy Reyna down the right side of the pitch. He then gets a bit lost in the box and drops the ball off to Ibini-Isei whose shot is blocked.

Another great counter-attacking chance for Vancouver. The Whitecaps’ have executed their game plan well, but were perhaps not efficient enough tonight. As it stands Colorado still has a path back into this match.

Fredy Montero is brought off for Erik Hurtado. Carl Robinson like clockwork taking off his entire front three.

Great chance for Colorado. Saeid wins the ball in the box and quickly turns to shoot. His shot is off-balance, however, and misses the goal by several yards.

Young Vancouver star Alphonso Davies is on for Brek Shea.

Colorado take off Jared Watts and bring on Bismark Boateng.

Marcel de Jong with a run forward and with a nice shot from the right edge of the box. The shot just dips in front of Howard, who makes a bit of a meal of the shot. No Whitecaps’ player can capitalize from the rebound.

Colorado’s Stefan Aigner with a great one-two here in midfield. He then spots that Ousted is a bit too far outside of his goal. The shot misses the target though.

First substitution for the Whitecaps. Cristian Techera is brought off for Bernie Ibini-Isei.

Almost the equalizer for Colorado. The ball bounces around Vancouver’s box and then lands on the feet of Michael Azira whose shot can be stopped by Ousted.

Next breakaway chance for Vancouver. This time it is Brek Shea who does not execute the play well. Vancouver needs to play more effective.

Next breakaway opportunity for Vancouver, but once again the Whitecaps cannot execute the play cleanly.

Good chance for Colorado after a freekick. A header misses the goal though.

Colorado bring on Stefan Aigner for Marlon Hairston. It will be interesting to see whether the former Bundesliga star can make an impact on this match.

Yordy Reyna with a fantastic pass to Techera whose curled effort just misses the net.

We are back to square one. Vancouver once again are sitting deep relinquishing the ball to Colorado to hit the Rapids on the counter-attack.

Vancouver Goal! Montero wins the ball just behind the halfway line and spots a run by Reyna. Howard waits a moment too long and is punished. The US national team keeper could have done better here.

Almost Montero’s second goal. The forward receives a great pass from Techera inside the six-yard box, Howard is there to stop the attempt and Montero then misses the ball on the rebound attempt.

Vancouver with an opportunity to breakaway with numbers, but Reyna misplays a pass to Brek Shea. Slow start here for Vancouver.

Vancouver Whitecaps v Colorado Rapids HT: 1-1

Halftime and the score is tied at 1-1 and no-one knows why. Vancouver had the game under control and it was only thanks to a silly defensive error that Colorado are back in this game.

Goal Colorado! Tim Parker fails to clear the ball inside the six-yard box and is muscled off the ball by Dominique Badji, who then beats David Ousted with a nutmeg. A poor goal to concede.

The freekick is played to tight to Howard’s goal who can clear the situation.

Techera with a run down the right side of the pitch. The Uruguayan is fouled by Mekeil Williams. Another good freekick opportunity for Vancouver.

Colorado’s Hairston with a great run inside Vancouver’s box. Tim Parker is there though and muscles the forward off the ball.

Vancouver have some great opportunities to hit Colorado on the counter-attack. But often times the final pass is not executed well enough making it too easy for the Rapids to defend.

Colorado have 59% ball possession at the moment. Vancouver seem content, however, to let the team from Denver control the match.

Techera with a hard cross into the box, which is extended by Tim Parker from there the ball just about misses Tim Howard’s goal.

Good freekick situation for Vancouver here. Techera is brought down on the right corner of the box.

Fredy Montero often drops deep to collect the ball. He almost acts like a playmaker, the problem with that is though that Vancouver lack an outlet up top.

Just as we write this Fredy Montero has the chance to make it 2-0 for Vancouver. His low shot is to weak, however, and Howard easily blocks the attempt.

Vancouver are sitting a bit too deep at the moment.

Good period of pressure by Colorado now. Saied is leading the forward line for the Rapids executing all freekicks and corner kicks. The Whitecaps are sitting deep waiting for counter-attack opportunities.

Good freekick situation from 25-yards out for the Colorado Rapids. Mohammed Saeid takes aim and hammers the ball into the wall. The score remains 1-0 for the Whitecaps.

Fredy Montero breaks away from Colorado’s defence and plays the ball nicely to Cristian Techera, who is just beaten to the ball by Tim Howard. The USA keeper is Colorado’s best player thus far.

Yordy Reyna with a beautiful freekick over Colorado’s six-player wall. Howard is there to stop the shot.

The referee has spotted a foul in that attacking run giving Vancouver a fantastic freekick situation just outside the box.

Yordy Reyna with a fantastic run down the middle of the park. He then passes the ball onto Brek Shea, who cannot beat Tim Howard.

Good attacking run by Colorado’s Mohammed Saeid, who brings a dangerous cross into Vancouver’s box. An important touch by Andrew Jacobson destroys a good scoring chance.

Montero’s goal ties his previous season high in Major League Soccer, which he achieved playing for the Seattle Sounders in the 2012 season.

Goal Vancouver! Yordy Reyna brings in a cross from the left-wing that finds striker Fredy Montero unmarked. The Colombian striker makes no mistake and scores his 13th goal of the season.

The first attack by Colorado Marlon Hairston is deflected for a corner, which is easily defended by the Whitecaps.
